Life Insurance
Since 1992, the USBA has provided access to group life insurance benefits to its members through a pooled purchasing approach.  Plan designs vary between school districts; for example, some districts offer dependent life insurance.  Currently, our life insurance benefit program is underwritten by Hartford Life. Long-Term Care Insurance
Long-term care has been described as America's number one health-care crisis.  Why?  First, nearly one out of ever two people will nee
d and use long-term health-care at some point during their lifetime; be it home health-care, adult day-care, assisted living facility, or nursing home.  Today, 40 percent of the people using long-term care are working adults between the ages of 18 and 64. Second, health care is expensive. The daily cost averages about $90.  Third, employee group major medical insurance does not provide financial benefits for long-term care; and Medicare pays only minimal and limited long-term care benefits.

Conclusion: Individuals must be financially responsible for themselves.
Accordingly, the USBA supports and endorses a voluntary plan of long-term care insurance to all Utah school district employees.  The plan is comprehensive and individually created for all interested employees.  The cost is inexpensive, including premium discounts of 50% for all participating married employees, as well as, other discounts for non-smokers, district employee groups, etc.   Contact Paula Summers for more information at 801-878-670 or psumers@usba.cc

Cancer Insurance
According to the American Cancer Society, one out of every three people alive today will get cancer.  Three out of every four families will be affected by cancer.  Cancer is the number one fatal disease of children ages 1 through 14.  It does not play favorites, as it affects young and old, women, and men.
Cancer treatment is expensive.  It can cost from $20,000 to over $100,000.  While school employee group medical insurance is designed to pay for medical expenses, it is not designed to pay for other types of expense associated with cancer called indirect costs. These expenses average as much as 70 percent of the total costs of fighting cancer.  Additional out-of-pocket expenses include travel and lodging, special dietary needs, etc. Living expenses such as car payments, mortgages or rent, and utility bills continue, regardless of your ability to work.  Consider the financial loss if a family member has to stop working to care for another family member ill with cancer.
Since 1986, the USBA has supported and endorsed to all Utah school district employees a plan of cancer insurance.  The plan pays cash benefits directly to the insured employees and family members for the care and treatment of a cancer illness of any type.  These paid benefits are tax-exempt.
