PUSH PAUSE Initiative
To bring attention to the rising number of education bills each year during the Utah Legislative Session, USBA and USSA are launching an initiative to decrease the number of education bills being passed. The campaign is called PUSH PAUSE. Utah’s education system is ranked #2 in the nation by US News–a testament to the hard work of our educators and students. Constant legislative changes threaten to undermine this success. It’s time to #PushPause on the overwhelming number of new education bills each session.
“Many bills require updates to not only policies but also to procedures, personal, funding, etc. The amount of time it takes to make these changes is overwhelming — especially for small districts where these take fall to people who already have full-time jobs supporting the areas for which they were hired.

“The number of education bills passed each year negatively impacts our school district. We encourage lawmakers to LISTEN to our educators before considering the passage of new bills.”
— Utah School Board Member
“The education bills passed in the 2023 Utah Legislative Session resulted in 39 USBE rules, 10 new programs, 8 new USBE reports, 9 new reports for LEAs and 8 RFPs.”
